i’d said i wasn’t going to dress up in a costume this halloween.
but in an hour-and-a-half and a lot of foraging through boxes on friday evening, i became a very convincing instant her. later that night, i was pulling up my newly improvized frida skirt and stepping over rain puddles on hollywood blvd--and feeling incredibly giddy. as if i'd snuck out my window and was staying up way past my bedtime in my best friend's cool grown-up clothes. (or maybe it was the stranger in the massive blond wig and roller skates who swooshed by me and squealed: “freeeeeeda!!! i love you!”)(or maybe it was the fact that i could've gotten away with doing nothing that night. but i did something. and it was worth it.)(or maybe i was just tipsy from my two gin-and-tonics...)
i’d also said i was going to visit with a friend in malibu this sunday.
but when we didn't get in touch with each other, elliot and i spent the chilly afternoon wrapped up in blankets and watching "the nightmare before christmas" on the tv. (it always seems better when they show it on the tv.) and later that evening, i felt very arty and crafty indeed and made these flowers out of aluminum cans:
