i grew up listening to “open up your heart and let the sunshine in” by a singing doll named “little marcy.” she sang really squeaky, happy, sunday school songs and i had the “happy day express” and “let the sunshine in” records when i was 3 or 4.

consistent with my ongoing inner contradictions: there’s a part of me that wants to be cynical about sickeningly sweet little marcy. i want to think she was kind-of scary. especially after seeing this record cover. (which i didn’t have, bit kind-of wish i did). but another part of me wants to have her (and her yellow bird) in my heart forever and ever.

at least my contradictions are consistent.
